Gregory Peck
I know, I know Gregory Peck was probably already submitted, but I saw that it was mostly for him as Atticus Finch. No, no, no. I mean, Atticus is an iconic character, but can we PLEASE get into how amazing of a person Gregory Peck was?
For being such a gruff man of the late 50s/early 60s he was quite liberal. He believed in women’s rights and equalities. He was pro-choice and believed that a woman’s body was her own. Richard Nixon put Gregory Peck on an ‘enemies’ list for his liberal activism.
He even had his own movie romance — while filming Roman Holiday, Peck was depressed over his impending divorce from his wife. During the shoot, he met a French reporter and fell in love. They married immediately after Peck’s divorce was finalized and remained married til his death.
He marched with Martin Luther King, campaigned for women’s rights, supported gay marriage/was a supporter of GLAAD, active supporter of raising funds for AIDS researching, often attended political rallies, and he remained close friends with Mary Badham, the girl who played “Scout” in To Kill A Mockingbird.
There’s nothing dreamier than a “man’s man” who’s very open to the world around him.

THE FEMALE WATSONS: Margaret Colin as Jane Watson with Michael Pennington as Sherlock Holmes in “The Return of Sherlock Holmes” (TV movie, 1986); Debrah Farentino as Dr. Amy Winslow with Anthony Higgins as Holmes in “Sherlock Holmes Returns” (TV movie, 1993); Jenny O’Hara as Dr. Joan Watson with Larry Hagman as Sherman Holmes (who thinks he’s Sherlock Holmes) in “The Return of the World’s Greatest Detective” (TV movie, 1976); Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson with Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes in “Elementary” (TV series, 2012); Galina Schepetnova as Jane Watson with Ekaterina Vasilyeva as Shirley Holmes (yes, a female Watson AND female Holmes) in “My Dearly Beloved Detective” (Russian movie, 1986); Joanne Woodward as Dr. Mildred Watson with George C. Scott as Justin Playfair (who thinks he’s Sherlock Holmes) in “They Might Be Giants” (1971).
Proving once again — especially in the Sherlock Holmes universe — that there is nothing new under the sun.
